The Swan River Rowing Club’s upstairs function room provides the perfect backdrop in which to create your own intimate and highly personalised wedding reception. The venue faces directly onto the river and opens onto a partially covered balcony where guests can enjoy taking in amazing views of dolphins and pelicans frolicking on the river by day and the twinkling lights of the city in the distance by night. Featuring exposed timber beams and a neutral colour palette, our function room can be individually styled by you and your wedding planners to create a cosy and inviting space that truly reflects who you are as a couple. Often described as ‘a hidden treasure’, wedding parties and their guests are continually amazed by the stunning outlook, breezy atmosphere and highly affordable rates offered by our venue.

Host to Hundreds of Happy Couples

SRRC has a proud heritage dating back to 1885 and is the second oldest club in WA. Whilst having provided a range of social activities to our members throughout our history, it was the extensive redevelopment of our club house just before 2000 that enabled us to open up our venue to hire for bigger events like weddings. Since then, our venue has played host to thousands of events including hundreds of weddings. With our central location close to Perth, exceptional views and affordable pricing, couples hiring our venue for their weddings are able to cost effectively create a truly memorable and special day. Many choose to also hold their wedding ceremonies in or around the club either on the balcony, on the riverbank or at one of the nearby Perth chapels.

Our Facilities

The SRRC function room is located on the first floor of the club and features its own private entrance via a staircase as well as goods and wheelchair access via an elevator. Available for hire for morning, afternoon and evening weddings, it has capacity for 85 seated guests or around 150 people for cocktail-style weddings. Venue hire fees include use of the club’s dinner tables and chairs or cocktail bars and barstools, although some clients choose to bring in their own furniture supplied by their chosen event partners. The room opens to a balcony which can also hold around 50 guests or slightly less for seated events. The balcony doors are able to be partially opened up during functions allowing guests to take in the views and pleasant breeze across the river.

The function room includes a bar facility with two bar fridges and small serving area which is available for hire at a small, additional cost. Bar and wait staff can also be hired directly from SRRC. Adjacent to the function room are the rest rooms as well a semi-commercial kitchen fitted with an oven and 8-burner stove, four fridges and preparation benches. Despite being fairly compact, the kitchen provides perfectly adequate facilities from which to prepare and serve sit-down meals for up to 85 guests. Space for a band, DJ or dancefloor can be incorporated into the seating plan and, because these areas are not built-in, wedding planners are provided with maximum flexibility in designing their preferred room layout.

There is paid onsite parking for 30 cars with additional public parking available at nearby Raffles hotel if required. SRRC is also centrally located a short walk over the bridge from Canning Bridge Train Station.

Décor

Our venue is simply and tastefully styled with white walls, exposed timber roof rafters, charcoal carpeting and decorative white pendant lights. The room also features downlights around the ceiling’s perimeter, some of which are dimmable to create the desired ambience. Many wedding organisers choose to bring in additional lighting, including party lighting if their reception is to include dancing. The mood and character of the space are purposefully neutral allowing wedding planners to add their own personalities to the venue through their choice of styling and decorations.

Event Partners

The highly affordable, venue hire rates offered by SRRC encompass use of the function room, balcony and kitchen as well as furniture and basic serving ware, as well as bar and wait staff for a small additional fee as necessary. All other services required for a wedding reception, such as stylists, florists, caterers, beverage supply, MC’s, DJ’s, sound systems and photographers are arranged directly by the wedding venue hirers themselves. Having played host to hundreds of weddings over two decades, we have access to a reliable list of Perth caterers and other suppliers and can provide details to our clients as required. Caterers are responsible for bringing all their own cooking utensils and often also provide crockery and cutlery for more formally themed weddings. Caterers frequently servicing wedding functions at SRRC include Temptations Catering and Beaumonde Catering however we welcome any reputable suppliers, (including home cooks!) to operate at our venue.

Availability and Access

SRRC is a popular Perth venue for weddings with Friday and Saturday nights, particularly from November through to March, generally booking out several months in advance. To secure your preferred date, we recommend contacting us to discuss your requirements at least four months prior to your wedding. We offer a range of fixed-price packages which vary depending on your required day of the week, the duration of your wedding function and how much time you require for setting and packing up. Please refer to our pricing table for further details. Our function room is available for hire every day of the week for morning, afternoon and evening weddings including on public holidays. Being closely situated to multiple residential zones, the only time limitation imposed on weddings held at the club is that they conclude no later than 12 midnight.

Upon booking your wedding at SRRC, you will be allocated a member of staff who will act as your designated contact in the leadup to your special day. This person will answer any queries you may have and help ensure you’re able to organise the perfect wedding celebration for you and your guests. They’ll also be on site throughout your function to take care of any unforeseen issue that may arise.
